My Summer Tench Rig
By the start of the Traditional season many of the Tench waters I fish have just enough weed growth to render my usual spring tactic of maggot feeders inoperable, my first line of attack in this instance is a method feeder, not wholly because of the feed delivery but because I feel it can flatten an area of weed, enabling me to present a hook bait which otherwise would be hidden from the fishes view. As I don’t like to fish big carp rods for Tench I find the larger method feeders suffer from being too large to cast effectively when fully loaded, and are quite cumbersome and ugly devices on the lake bed, whilst I am not sure this puts fish off, I don’t think it does us any favours!

I do though require a weight of 2+ ounces for a bolt effect and so after some experimentation and advice from other Tenchfishers have found the Atomic in-line nobbler leads best serve my needs in the “stealth” method/bolt feeder department and this rig accounted for around 40 of my Tench to 8 lb in the summer months of 2006 |
