Leon Bartropp - My Favourite Rig
I’ve been using this Pop Up rig for the past 3 seasons and have had some fantastic results. The rig is very easy to construct and the benefit is that you can change the hook as many times as you like when you either catch a fish or the hook loses its sharpness without having to tie a new rig from scratch.
Another benefit of using the FuzeWire from Atomic is that it is quite a bit stiffer than say the Jellywire, this makes it harder to eject from a fishes point of view and also it doesn’t tangle due to this stiffness.
Tuesday morning I had over done it and when I turned the news on they were saying that London was grid locked because of the fuel protests, say no more I was on my way back over the Manor.
Below are my step by step instructions to construct this rig.
These are all the components you will need to construct the rig.
Take a length of FuzeWire I usually use about 12 inches.
Now tie a large overhand loop of about 2 inches at one end.
Tie another shorter overhand loop of about 1inch in the opposite end.
Slide the stiff rigger hook onto the larger loop and slide a mini rig ring on also.
Now take the loop over the bend of the hook as shown on the picture to create a ‘D’ on the hook with the mini ring running easily.
It should now look like this...
Now tie on using baitfloss your chosen pop up.
Peel back about half an inch of the FuzeWire above below the larger loop with the hook attached and squeeze on a shot to counterbalance the popup. To finish off rub a small piece of Atomic Putty on the hooklink to make sure the rig sits flat on the bottom.
Attach an Atomic Swivel to the smaller loop as shown on the picture.
There you have it a popup rig that I have the utmost confidence in and one that I have caught many fish on over the past few years.
